DARKE COUNTY – On Monday at approximately 7:33 p.m., Darke County Deputies, along with Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue and CareFlight, were dispatched to the intersection of SR 49 and Hollansburg-Sampson Road, in reference to an accident with injury.
Preliminary investigation revealed a red 2024 Kawasaki Ninja being operated by Steven Copenhaver (52) of Brookville, Ohio, was traveling northwest on SR 49 at Hollansburg-Sampson Road. A white 2016 GMC Terrain being driven by Rebecca Harleman (64) of Bradford, Ohio, was stopped at the stop sign on Hollansburg-Sampson Road facing east. Ms. Harleman attempted to cross over SR 49 but failed to yield the right of way to Mr. Copenhaver, causing the accident. Copenhaver was then ejected from the motorcycle.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they immediately rendered aid and began CPR on Copenhaver, but ultimately, he succumbed to his injuries sustained from the accident.
Copenhaver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
