Bradford – Margie L. Layman, Class of 1973, was inducted into the Bradford High School Athletic Hall of Fame on 12/12/25 Friday evening prior to the boys basketball game verses National Trail.
Margie’s accomplishments are remarkable not only for their excellence, but for the era in which she achieved them. Competing before Title IX, when girls’ sports received almost no recognition, Margie still participated and excelled in every sport at Bradford. Had varsity letters been awarded to girls each year, she would have earned 13 letters during her high school career.
Margie continued her athletic journey at Ohio University, where she walked on and earned spots on the varsity softball team, varsity field hockey team, and reserve basketball squad. As a utility player in softball, she helped lead OU to the 1975 Women’s College World Series, a team that was inducted into the Ohio University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.
After college, Margie spent 30 years serving students as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator. She coached multiple sports, earned two master’s degrees, and even opened her home as a foster parent to ten children—an incredible testament to her character.
Margie’s legacy is one of quiet trailblazing, resilience, and extraordinary dedication. She paved a path for future generations of Bradford girls who would benefit from opportunities she herself never received.
