ARCANUM – The Arcanum Trojans football program, under the direction of head coach Matt Macy saw more than 40 second through sixth graders complete the two-day 2025 Trojan Football Youth Camp.
“We had a good turnout,” said Macy. “We have most of our varsity team out here giving back to the community; that’s what this is mostly about, our varsity guys interacting with the young guys and getting them out in the community.”
Extremely warm and humid weather greeted the campers on both days of the summer camp.
“It’s warm, but we’re fighting through it,” Coach Macy noted. “The first few weeks of the season are all played in this kind of weather, we’re taking it easy on them, lots of water, lots of fun.”
The young Trojans were introduced to all offensive and defensive positions on the football field in hopes of a desire for a football future.
“The main thing we want to get out of it, we want the kids to love football and to want to play football; that’s the main goal,” Macy stated. “We’re teaching them fundamentals of each position, everybody is playing every position, so every kid is playing quarterback, every kid is playing offensive line, and they hopefully pick up one or two techniques that they can use when they play.”
Coach Macy thanked his coaching staff, the administration, and the high school football players for their help and support of the camp in building a Trojans’ football program on the upswing with a bright future.
“It’s bright,” Macy said of the program. “Participation numbers in the lower grades are up; we have a big junior high team this year. We have one of our larger varsity teams that we haven’t had in a while. Still not quite what I envision and want it to be numbers-wise, but we have a ton of talent.”
“We don’t have 50 kids, but I think we have the right 35 kids,” Macy added. “We have 35 football players, which is sometimes better than having 50 kids and not all football players.”
