ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans jumped out to a 13-0 lead over the visiting Versailles Lady Tigers on their way to earning a 13-2 non-conference win between the two Darke County schools.

“Everybody is doing their job,” said Arcanum coach Mike Morris. “It doesn’t matter who it is, everybody is doing their job.”
Arcanum took a 3-0 lead after one inning of play with a Kenzie Byrne two-run double and an Ella Flatter run-scoring sacrifice fly.
The Lady Trojans exploded for six second-inning runs, taking advantage of three consecutive RBI doubles off the bats of Jordyn Garbig, Grace Fry, and Byrne. Bryne crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Claire Hine closed out scoring with an RBI double, giving the home team a 9-0 lead after two complete.

The Lady Trojans continued to pound the ball, tacking on four third-inning runs coming on a one-out Byrne grand slam and a 13-0 lead with Coach Morris going to his bench.
“Kenzie Byrne a grand slam, two nights in a row, home runs,” Morris noted. “Cam is pitching really good. Defensively, Grace Fry at third has been outstanding.”

Versailles dented the board for two runs in the top of the fifth with a Miley Stover two-run double, but it was too little, too late, with Arcanum earning a run-rule win.

“Another good win,” Morris said. “Defensively, we’ve been solid. We’re coming together at the right time. Our hitting is outstanding right now. We got the game done in five, and it seems like everything is coming together right now.”
“We’re working with a young team,” said Versailles coach Tatyanna Cotrell. “I wish that we could figure out our fielding and hitting quicker, but I’m glad it didn’t end in a shutout; we got those two runs.”
Cam Garbig went the distance for Arcanum, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs, four hits, no walks, while striking out 2.
Kayla Jay pitched 1.1 innings for Versailles, and Madison Yagle pitched 2.2 innings in relief, combining for 10 hits, 2 walks, and 13 runs.

Byrne led Arcanum at the plate, going 3-3 with two doubles and a home run, 7 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Fry was 2-3 including a double, 1 RBI, 3 runs; J. Garbig went 2-3 including a double, 2 RBI, 2 runs; Cam Garbig was 1-1, a double and a walk; Hein 1-3, a double and an RBI; Matty Noe 1-3, a double, 1 RBI, 1 run; Ella Warren a walk, 1 run; Rees Hoffman 2 runs.
“My girls aren’t quitting, but l would rather it start quicker than later,” Coach Cotrell stated. “We only have a few games left, and I wish we could go out stronger than we started this year, and bring in some more runs and wins.”
Arcanum improves to 16-6 overall and 8-1 in WOAC play. Versailles drops to 6-14 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.
