NEW MADISON – The Arcanum Lady Trojan won their sixth consecutive game by downing Tri-Village Lady Patriot 9-0 in night WOAC play.
“We’re a good hitting team right now,” said Arcanum coach, Mike Morris. “We just have to keep it going and believe in each other and do your job when you get in the game.”
“Arcanum is a good team, they came out ready to hit the ball,” said Tri-Village coach, Emily Osborne. “Our team’s young. We knew that we needed to work harder at the plate, it just didn’t show up tonight.”
Arcanum took and early 8-0 lead over the Lady Patriots after three innings of play scoring 2-runs in the second and plating 6-runs in the top of the third inning.
Arcanum tacked on a single run in the fifth inning in what proved to be the final scoring of the night between the two Darke County schools.
Arcanum senior Hannah Kendig went the distance pitching the shutout while allowing 5-hits, no walks and striking out seven.
“Pitching was excellent, Hannah was on her game,” Morris noted. “Defensively we did our job.”
The Lady Trojans continue to swing the bat well at the plate collecting 12-hits on the night.
“Hitting, I was pleased until about the fifth inning – it was like we stopped,” said Coach Morris. “We have to keep going. It gets to like we’re satisfied and we can’t be doing that. I want to see us continue to attack.”
Tri-Village freshman, Elizabeth Poling went the distance on the mound for the Lady Patriots.
“She worked hard,” Osborne stated. “We did have that one inning and part of it was just learning our defense behind her – wasn’t anything she gave up, it was errors behind her.”
Kaitly Toy led Arcanum at the plate going 3-4 with a RBI and a run. Brooklyn Ullery was 2-4 with a RBI and a run; Paige Burrell 2-4 and 2-runs; Emilie Fout 2-4 including a double and a run; Grace Fry 1-4 including a double and 3-RBIs; Mollie Ericksen 1-4 including a double and 2-RBIs.
