ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans dropped a Wednesday night doubleheader to the visiting Talawanda Lady Braves dropping the opening game 9-4 and losing the nightcap 15-8 in non-conference softball action.
“I am proud of the way the girls come out,” said Arcanum coach, Mike Morris. “We’re not finding the holes, eventually we’re going to find them.”

“We’re there,” Morris added. “We just opened up the season with four Division I schools in a row. That’s what we want, we want to play big schools, the best teams and get us ready for the league and tournament.”
Arcanum jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after one inning of play in game No. 1 with the Lady Braves answering with 4 runs in the top of the second to lead 5-3. Arcanum scored a single run in the bottom of the 4 fourth to trail 5-4 only to have Talawanda score a run in the fifth and three in the seventh to win 9-4.

Arcanum was held to three hits including a Kenzie Byrne solo home run, a Grace Fry 2-run double, and a Natty Noe single.
Hannah Kendig went the distance on the mound in game one allowing 6 earned runs, 8 hits, 5 walks while striking out 8. Talawanda played error-free ball, Arcanum committed 2 errors.

Talawanda quickly led 6-0 with Arcanum battling back to make it a 6-3 score after two complete. The Lady Braves went back on top 12-3 in the top of the fifth with Arcanum scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and added a single run in the bottom of the sixth to trail 12-8.
The visitors added 3 insurance runs in the top of the seventh with the Lady Trojans going down in order in the bottom of the inning for a 15-8 final score.

Ella Flatter, Matty Noe, and Grace Fry led the Lady Trojans with 2 hits, Byrne, Jordyn Garbig, Claire Hein, Merideth Laux, and Ashlyn Miller each had a single.
Cam Garbig tossed 2.2 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Belle Harleman threw 4.1 innings giving up 15 hits, 8 earned runs, no walks, and 2 strikeouts. Talawanda played error free ball, Arcanum committed 3 errors.
Arcanum’s 10 players in the second game included five freshmen, two sophomores, one junior, and two seniors.

“That last game we had five freshmen and two sophomores in the lineup,” Coach Morris noted. “No quit, everybody was positive. It’s going to come, I know it will. We will be fine.”
“It doesn’t get any easier,” added Morris. “We go to Ansonia, then we have Mechanicsburg, and then Waynesville so it’s not going to be easy.”
