“I felt like improvement was made all week,” said Arcanum head coach, Abbey Moore. “Hopefully they learned some new things to do at home with ball handling and skills that are going to go with them as they move up in the program.”

The four day camp had two hour junior high sessions for the from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., each morning, and noon to 2 p.m., first grade through sixth grade sessions in the afternoon.

“We did all kinds of fundamentals this year,” Moore said. “Thursday’s focus was a little bit more on defense. We did a lot of contests too to develop a little bit of competitiveness between the campers.”

Lady Trojans JV girls basketball coach and Arcanum alum, Stevie Johnting assisted Coach Moore.

“I can’t say enough about Stevie, she did a great job,” Coach Moore said. “I put her with the younger girls in our afternoon session and she did a phenomenal job. She’s really good with that age of kids being an elementary teacher and does fantastic developing a love for the game with those young girls. That’s where it all starts, having fun. She teaches summer school and has a lot on her plate but I am very appreciative of all that she did for me this week.”

The Lady Trojans basketball players also assisted Coach Moore and Coach Johnting at the four day camp.

“There is no way I could open up to this many kids and have a successful week without these high school girls,” Moore stated. “I was definitely bossy but none of them had an attitude with me and did a fantastic job, did whatever I asked them to do so I am rewarding them with a little pizza right now.”

Arcanum has three Lady Trojans retuning for the 2023-24 season that were very instrumental in the success of the camp.

“I enjoy most getting to know the girls and to see the future of our program grow,” said incoming senior Rylee Leeper.

“I like meeting the girls and creating relationships with them over the week,” incoming Lady Trojans senior Ashlyn Miller stated. “It is fun teaching them to love the game of basketball.”

“I enjoy spending time with the girls, getting to know them and seeing them grow as a basketball player,” said incoming Arcanum senior Ava Gilbert.”

Coach Moore was pleased with the camp, and the future of Lady Trojans basketball.

“We’re excited,” she said. “There is a bright future ahead here with the Arcanum girls basketball program and I’m just lucky to be a part of it.”
