ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans defeated the Houston Lady Wildcats 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action.
“We knew this was going to be a big game, especially looking at tournament seeding,” said Arcanum coach Jacie Holman. “We wanted to send a message that we deserve one of the top seeds.”
The Lady Trojans opened with a 25-20 win, took the second set 25-22, and finished off the match with a decisive third set lead, settling for a 25-19 win to earn the straight set victory.
“We would get a jumpstart on them, then we would kind of struggle at putting the game away and keeping the momentum that we’ve been focusing on a lot,” Holman. “When we get those big leads, we want to focus on staying in that. We lost that a little bit from time to time but I am so proud of them.”
Five Lady Trojans seniors played essential roles in the shutout win over the Shelby County Athletic League (SCAL) opponent: Grace Psczulkoski, Grace Fray, Avery Leeper, Kamryn Beisner, and Caroline Long.
“My seniors are wonderful, they each bring something different,” Coach Holman said. “Some girls are leaders by their actions on the court, others are the ones that are hyping, and others are quiet leaders that are talking on the bench to the girls and telling them they are doing fine.”
“They are great, and it’s not just seniors,” added Holman. “All of my girls, the juniors step up in their leadership, so every single one of my girls is a leader in their own way.”
