ANSONIA – The Ansonia Lady Tigers defeated the Bradford Lady Railroaders 2-1 in a Tuesday night WOAC softball matchup.

“Real pleased with how the girls played,” said Ansonia coach, Floyd Jenkins. “Later innings there the girls kept their composure, had bases loaded and they got out of the jamb, same way with two outs the inning before that – our first baseman Ava Thacker made a couple good defensive plays.”

“We’re definitely young,” said Bradford coach, Shon Shaffer. “We have seven new starters so it looks kind of like we’re disorganized but they’re taking little steps at a time and we’ll get there by the end.”

Abby Kramer pitched a 1-hitter for the Lady Tigers with Brenna Schmit and Ava Thatcher each accounting for third inning RBIs giving Ansonia a 2-0 lead that would prove to be all the offense the Lady Tigers would need to improve to 5-1 on the season.

“She’s (Kramer) getting stronger as we go along,” noted Coach Jenkins. “If we get warm weather she could pitch a lot better. She’s doing a fine job and so are our other pitchers we have. You haven’t seen much of them but we have a pretty good staff.”

Abby Kramer led the Lady Tigers on the mound tossing a 1-hitter, no earned runs, 5-walks while striking out seven.

Bradford’s Izzy Hamilton went the distance on the mound allowing just 5-hits and 2-runs for the Lady Railroaders.

“That was her (Izzy) best outing of the season so far,” said Shaffer. “The defense just let her down a little bit…put too many runners on.”

“I thought we made really good contact, it was just at people too much,” Coach Shaffer added. “Those hits will fall eventually but I thought we made good contact against a girl that throws pretty hard.”
