VANDALIA – The Ansonia Junior High Cheerleaders delivered a championship performance on the state stage, earning first place in the Game Day competition at the Ohio state cheer competition.
The title capped a season defined by dedication, preparation, and teamwork, according to head coach Aleesha Mestemaker, who praised the group’s commitment throughout the year.
“We are incredibly proud of these girls and the hard work they’ve put in all season,” said Ansonia head coach Aleesha Mestemaker. “They’ve shown dedication, resilience, and heart through our season, and to see that effort pay off by winning State is truly special. Watching their reactions in that moment is something I’ll never forget — it was pure joy and a reflection of how much this team has earned this victory.”
Assistant coach Kori Weiss echoed those sentiments, pointing to the countless hours the team has invested.
“Our cheer team’s state championship win in the Game Day competition reflects their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence,” said Weiss. “The hours they put in truly paid off. We are incredibly proud of this team and how they represented our school.”

The championship performance also drew praise from longtime former Ansonia head cheerleading coach Ericka Kramer, who congratulated both the athletes and the current coaching staff.
“We would like to extend a huge congratulations to Aleesha Mestamaker and Kori Weiss for an outstanding job this year with the junior high cheer team,” said Kramer. “Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to these athletes truly showed throughout the entire season.”
Kramer added that the season’s impact went beyond the trophy.
“Congratulations on earning a State Championship, a remarkable achievement that reflects your hard work, preparation, and passion for excellence,” she added. “You created a positive, energetic environment that helped the girls grow not only as cheerleaders but as teammates and young leaders. The time, effort, and heart you put into this program did not go unnoticed, and the impact you’ve made will last well beyond this season. Congratulations on a truly exceptional year!
