BRADFORD – The Ansonia Lady Tigers defeated the Bradford Lady Railroaders in straight sets to win a Tuesday night WOAC varsity volleyball match.

“Practice yesterday was a tough one for us,” said Ansonia coach Lydia Schlarman. “We came together as a team. We needed that after last week.”

“I know my girls have it so what they are bringing to the floor is nothing as we practice,” said Bradford coach Jamie Hocker. “We practice so much harder and for some reason, they’re just not bringing it to the floor at this point.”

Ansonia easily won the opening set 25-8 with the Lady Roaders showing better in set No. 2 in dropping a 25-12 set to the Lady Tigers.

“The first two sets it all came together really well,” Scharlman stated. “Our serve receive was awesome which we had struggled at the beginning of the season so our passes were there and our setters put the ball where they needed it to be and then the hitters put it away.”

Set No. 3 saw Bradford take a 15-18 advantage in the second set before Ansonia closed out the night with a 25-19 win.

“That third set, hitting errors got to us, but then we came back,” Scharlman noted. “I wasn’t worried.”

“Lilly Kaiser stepped up tonight, Camryn Winner is an overall great hitter on the front row for us, I can put her in any position and I know she is going to take care of the ball,” Schalman added. “Olivia Schmitmeyer, this is her second game back for us and you would never know she was out for two weeks.”

“Going from last year to this year, the team is gelling so much better, so the communication, the friendships, and things are building,” said Hocker. “That is what starts the team. I’m excited for the rest of the season because I know they’re pushing. Having confidence in each other and themselves is what we need.”

With the win, Ansonia improves to 3-1 in WOAC play and 4-4 overall. Bradford falls to 0-4 in conference action and 1-11 overall for the season.
