In one short week, our immediate family has celebrated two birthdays. I wrote about the one last week when my son Jamie was honored at the Ansonia American Legion on his 50th last Saturday afternoon even though it has been hard for me to register. Where did the time go?
This Saturday, we got to help Sunni June Marie Jones celebrate her first birthday.
Sunni was born two months early Oct. 30, 2024, weighing in at 2 pounds, 11 ounces.
Boy, has she changed. I love her name because it fits her so perfectly. She’s a bright spot in the lives of those who know and love her.
On our side of the family, she is the daughter of Buck Jones and Jasmine Trent and granddaughter of my niece, Michelle Brumbaugh Jones and her husband, Bob, and the great-granddaughter of my sister, Bev Brumbaugh, all of whom were in attendance with Jamie and me, in addition to those on the maternal side of her family.
Family members gathered in the Brick Room of the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville for the party.
You can tell Sunni is loved by many.
Lots of photos were taken and gifts opened. And, I think she enjoyed it when she was presented with her own smash cake.
She isn’t walking yet but sure looks like she could soon. Then, look out, She’ll be everywhere if her crawl is any indication of the future. She’s speedy and Sunni!

It’s my understanding that there will be an 80th birthday party Nov. 1 for Roy Turner, Ansonia’s former police chief from 2 to 4p.m. at the Ansonia First Church of God.
His daughter, Renea, told me he is looking forward to seeing some of his past associates in law enforcement as well as friends and neighbors.
