GREENVILLE – Wayne HealthCare, in collaboration with the Wayne HealthCare Foundation and local community partners, has received a $100,000 Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to establish the Darke County Rural Health Network.
The initiative brings together healthcare providers, public health agencies, schools, and community organizations to strengthen partnerships, identify gaps in services, and develop solutions that support the health and well-being of Darke County residents.
“Strong rural healthcare depends on more than the services provided within the walls of a hospital. It takes meaningful partnerships and a shared commitment to the communities we serve,” said Jeff Subler, CEO of Wayne HealthCare. “This grant gives us an opportunity to build on the strengths of our local organizations, identify opportunities to better meet the needs of our residents, and work together toward a healthier, more sustainable future for Darke County.”
The one-year grant, extending through June 30, 2027, will support the development of a community-wide strategic plan focused on improving access to healthcare and support services, particularly in the areas of mental health, substance use prevention, and care coordination.
Building on Community Partnerships and Progress
The Darke County Rural Health Network includes Wayne HealthCare, the Darke County General Health District, and Recovery and Wellness Centers of Midwest Ohio as core partners, with additional organizations contributing expertise and resources.
Community partners are already working together to advance mental health awareness, education, and access to support. Efforts include Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention education, collaboration with local schools to strengthen youth mental health resources, and initiatives to help individuals and families connect with services.
As part of these ongoing community efforts, Porchlight, an online mental health and wellness resource, will be available beginning November 1, 2026. Designed for individuals of all ages, including children, teens, adults, and older adults, Porchlight offers mental health self-assessments, educational tools, and resources to support emotional well-being. Community members and families are encouraged to explore the platform at porchlight.crediblemind.com
