Robert A. Fields (92)

Robert A. Fields, 92, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026, with his family by his side. Bob was born October 4, 1934, in Randolph County, Indiana son of Elmer and Ruth (Matchett) Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, son Mike, father and mother-in-law, James and Virgina (Coppess) Hair, brothers, Keith and Charles (Dick) Fields, sisters, June Alley, Norma Cramer, and Karen Shawver.

On October 28, 1956, Bob married Mary (Hair) his love of 65 years, who passed in November 2021. They met while cruising on Broadway in Greenville, Ohio.

Bob graduated from Jackson Twp. Schools in Randolph County, Indiana. He worked at the Backstay Union City, IN before farming became his lifelong passion. He farmed in both Indiana and Ansonia, Ohio where he and Mary raised their three sons Rex, Mike, and Jon.

Bob raised chickens and turkeys for Cooper Farms and bred and raised Suffolk sheep. He spent many cold nights in the old barn anxiously awaiting his new flock of lambs. His favorite was named Legend and Bob was very proud of that ram. He met many good friends across the United States while involved with his sheep.

He was a hard worker who loved to garden and take care of Mary’s flowers after retirement. He started woodworking where he proudly made beautiful crosses for his family.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Rex (Shelly) Fields, Jon Fields, daughter in law, Ann Fields.; seven grandchildren, Emily (Rod) Reynolds, Kari (Kyle) Warvel, Jenna (Ty) Smith, Tiffany (Kyle) Winner, Cody Fields, Laura (Justin) Mullins and James (Claire) Fields; eleven great-grandchildren with one due in December, Lainey, Emmitt and Hallie Reynolds, Grady, Sophie and Henry Warvel, Evan and Landon Smith, Annalise, Laine and Cheyene Winner and Baby Fields; sisters, Pat Harris, Janet Reinhart, Joyce Thomas, Kay Baker, Kathie Cook; sister in law, Martha (Dan) Jones and dear family friend Sara Kasler; and his dogs, Ellie and Trixie III.

He was our father, brother, grandfather, and friend who loved red tractors, chocolate ice cream, candy, and talking like Mrs. Doubtfire. He loved teasing everyone and he will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their care and Kevin, Melissa, Jessica, Teresa, and so many not mentioned at The Brethren’s Home for your kindness and care you gave Bob on a daily basis. Also, John Keller, for your friendship.

Private services will be held at Zechar Bailey with Rev. Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Weimer Cemetery, Ridgeville, IN. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be given to Teegarden Christian Church, 2753 St. Rt. 47, Ansonia, OH 45303.
