Driver injured after crashing into tree, alcohol suspected

DARKE COUNTY – On October 25, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Darke County Deputies, along with New Madison Fire and Tri-Village Rescue, responded to the 3200 block of State Route 121 for a reported one-vehicle injury crash into a tree.

Preliminary investigation revealed a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck, driven by Jacob Wiford (30) of New Madison, was traveling southbound on State Route 121 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck drove off the right side of the roadway into the ditch, striking several small trees and then drove head-on into a large tree.

The driver was transported to Wayne HealthCare for minor injuries. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
