Tom passed away peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio after a brief recent illness. He is now at peace after many struggles over several years with multiple health issues.
He is preceded in death by his mother Olive (Flo) Lundry, Father Grover Shepherd, brothers Lowell Shepherd, Dick Shepherd, Ralph Shepherd and sister Dorothy Wade. Also, nephews Gary Shepherd, Jack Riegle, Steve Shepherd and nieces Roberta Westfall, Darla Robbins and Connie Liebrecht.
Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years Saundra (Marchal) Shepherd, nephews Ron (Betty) Shepherd, Rick (Nancy) Shepherd, Ken (Sylvia) Shepherd as well as an extended family of great-nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1959 and soon thereafter entered the US Navy. Tom served 21 years as a flight engineer and retired with a rank of E 7. He was stationed out of Jacksonville, Florida but spent most of his time in western Europe, Africia and South America and lived in Sicily for a year.
After retiring from the Navy, he returned to Ansonia and lived on a small farm where he enjoyed farming with his Minneapolis Moline tractor and planting a garden.
Tom was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association and had traveled to many rallies as well as to all the lower 48 states on his Goldwing.
He was a Christian and enjoyed going to church and listening to gospel music on TV. His favorite saying was “Don’t tell God your problem—tell your problem you have a big God.”

Full Military Services conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 3, 2026, in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery Ansonia, Ohio with Pastor Wayne Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services in the funeral home.
