SOUTH CHARLESTON — The Greenville boys golf team is headed to the district tournament for the first time since 2019 after placing third with a 301 at the Division I sectional tournament.
Hayden Null earned medalist honors with a 3-under-par 69, breaking Greenville’s school record of 70. Brody Weaver added a 1-under 71, while Braxton Moore shot an 80 and freshman Harper Kerns an 81 to complete the Green Wave’s team score. Hayden Burns finished with an 86.
“I told the boys we were the underdogs,” Greenville coach Brian Stickel said. “We’ve lost to Troy, Butler, Sidney, and Tippecanoe is always dangerous, so they have the pressure on them. Just play smart golf and we will win — and we did.”
Null bogeyed his opening hole, then recovered to make a 15-foot downhill putt on his final hole to secure the record.
“Hayden Null bogeyed the first hole and from there played flawless golf,” Stickel said. “He made a 15-foot downhill putt on 9, his last hole, to give him the 69, which is a school record.”
Stickel praised Brody Weaver’s consistency and the contributions throughout the lineup.
“Can’t say enough about Brody,” he said. “He played a steady round with two birdies and 15 pars. So happy for him. Braxton made some crucial putts down the stretch and played steady.”
“For a freshman, Harper played great,” Stickel added. “Once again he made some very tough putts. He started four over after three holes but really kept his composure. Hayden Burns played well but just couldn’t get putts to fall.”
The top four teams and the top four individuals from nonqualifying teams advanced to districts.
“This is our first time back to districts, as a team, since 2019,” Stickel said. “Very happy and proud of these men.”
Greenville will compete in the OHSAA Division I Southwest District tournament Oct. 5 at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro.
