GREENVILLE – The Mississinawa Valley boys golf team saved its best for last. The Blackhawks followed a solid showing at the WOAC Championship with one of their top rounds of the season at sectionals, earning a trip to the OHSAA Division III District tournament.
WOAC Championship
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Mississinawa Valley competed in the 18-hole WOAC Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Course. After finishing sixth in the regular-season conference standings, the team also placed sixth in the championship match with a team score of 361.
Jaxin Beanblossom led the way with an 82. He finished fourth overall in the conference and earned First Team All-WOAC honors. Bently Manning shot an 86 and received WOAC Honorable Mention. Cade Seubert (94) and Cole Hanes (99) also counted toward the team score, and Gavin Rehmert and Casen Gower rounded out the lineup.
Sectional Breakthrough
The Blackhawks went back to Turtle Creek on Sept. 23 for the OHSAA Division III Boys Sectional. In a very competitive field, they shot a team score of 359. That beat Ansonia by two strokes for fourth place, the final qualifying spot for Districts.
Manning had his best 18-hole score of the year with an 81. Beanblossom, a senior, added an 83. Hanes shot 96, Seubert 99 and Rehmert 111.
“I have always believed this team had the potential to get to Districts, and they put together a great round at a tough Turtle Creek course,” said coach Keith Fields. “I am very proud of this group of boys and the way they have progressed this year and the hard work they have put in. With only Jaxin as a senior, this team has five sophomores to continue with this program.”
Looking Ahead
Mississinawa Valley will play in the OHSAA Division III District tournament at Heatherwood Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio, on Monday, Sept. 28, with a 9:00 a.m. tee time. The Blackhawks have a young core that keeps getting better, and they head to Springboro ready to see how far they can take this season.
