GREENVILLE — The Greenville Green Wave varsity boys golf team earned a narrow 164-165 victory over the Tippecanoe Red Devils in Miami Valley League regular-season play.

“This was a big win tonight,” Greenville coach Brian Stickel said. “We have not beaten Tipp in a very long time.”

The victory improved Greenville’s record to 4-2 in the MVL and 5-3 overall.

“We have two more matches in the league before the league tournament,” Stickel said.

Hayden Null and Hayden Burns led the Green Wave, each shooting a 39. Brody Weaver and Braxton Moore each carded a 43 to complete Greenville’s four counting scores.

Harper Kerns finished with a 44, while Braylon Byers shot a 49.

Burns delivered two important putts that helped Greenville secure the one-stroke victory.

“Hayden Burns made two big putts tonight,” Stickel said. “One was for a birdie, and the other was for a par.”

Thomas Miller led Tippecanoe with a 38. Grant Paulet shot a 41, Max Lyons finished with a 42 and Rohan Patel carded a 44.

Andrew Gagnon and Jacob Harshbarger each shot a 47 for the Red Devils.

Greenville was scheduled to face Sidney on Tuesday in a rescheduled league match after the teams were rained out the previous week.

“Big match Tuesday against Sidney,” Stickel said.

The Green Wave will host Franklin Monroe in a nonconference match Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Turtle Creek Golf Course. Greenville also has an upcoming match with Troy and Piqua.

“Busy week, but we’re looking forward to it,” Stickel said.
