GREENVILLE – To honor the 2,977 innocent people whose lives were lost 25 years ago today, a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony was held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Greenville K-8 School parking lot.
The ceremony was held to remember those who lost their lives following a terrorist attack at the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. A fourth plane crashed before it could reach its unknown destination after passengers fought to take back the hijacked airplane.
The parking lot was packed with students, staff, first responders, Veterans and more. Opening remarks were given by Middle School Principal Mr. Brent Short; a Presentation of Colors and Military Rifle Drill by the Greenville High School NJROTC; singing of the National Anthem from Mrs. Thompson’s Choir; followed by the lowering of the flag and a moment of silence; and a speech from guest speaker Gaylen Blosser, Veterans Services Commissioner for the State of Ohio. In addition, a recognition of all honored guests, first responders, local heroes and student leaders.
Blosser spoke about the tragic day that changed America, along with the importance of believing in and supporting our great nation.
“For the younger children here today, I want you to understand something important. Remembering 9/11 is not meant to frighten you. It is meant to teach you about courage, kindness, sacrifice and the importance of helping one another,” he said during his speech on Friday morning.
“It was an honor to speak to Greenville students, faculty, first responders, and veterans during the 25th anniversary observance of 9/11. Greenville is blessed with outstanding students, educators, school leaders, first responders, and Veterans,” Blosser stated. “It was a privilege to join them in remembering the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.”
