UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley boys golf team closed out its regular season with a 170–185 win over Dixie, finishing 6–5 and winning six of its final eight matches to secure 5th place in the WOAC in regular season play.
Senior Jaxin Beanblossom capped another strong year on the links, leading the Blackhawks with a 40.6 nine-hole average, good for 7th overall in the conference. He’ll have a chance to climb even higher at the season-ending WOAC 18-hole tournament championship on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Turtle Creek Golf Club in Greenville.
Beanblossom is also looking to repeat as a district qualifier and will lead a team with the potential to finish in the top four at the OHSAA Division III Boys Sectional Tournament, which would send the Blackhawks to district tournament as a team qualifier. The sectional tournament will also be played at Turtle Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Mississinawa Valley boys coach Keith Fields is pleased with how his team finished the regular season, especially with the growth shown by his younger players.
“The team won the UCCC Classic against strong competition and since the start of the season, every player has made significant progress. The sophomores have been a key part of that improvement: Bently Manning averages 44.5, Cade Seubert 49.2, Cole Hanes 49.0, Gavin Rehmert 50.4, and Casen Gower 51.6,” Fields said.
“I am very proud of this group. They have all put in the work to improve their game. I am looking forward to seeing how they can finish off this season in tournament play,” Fields concluded.
