Demolition Bids for U.C. Mill Being Accepted

DARKE COUNTY – The August 18, 2026 Darke County Commissioners’ regular meeting started at 9:30 a. m. with Commissioners Combs and Flatter present. The Commissioners then approved the minutes from August 13.

The examination and allowance of bills were presented and approved. The vouchers for August 13th and 18th were: General fund $9,199.74; outside General funds $820,008.48; for a total of $829,208.22.

A Transfer of Appropriations for the D.C. Airport was next. Funds totaling $29,550.00 for expenses were approved.

Bids for the demolition of the vacant mill structure in Union City will be accepted until 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10th. Bid packets can be picked up at the Commissioner’s office or obtained electronically.

Expense requests for the Prosecutor, Veterans, and Sheriff were next on the agenda. The Veterans will send Von Gehron and Thomas Pitman to Dublin, Ohio, on Sept. 9-11 for the OSACVSO conference at a cost of $1,220.00. The Prosecutor’s Office asked for $757.70 for James Bennett to attend a fall training seminar in Cleveland Sept. 25-26, and the Sheriff is sending Stephen Cox and Greg Fourman to the OTOA Active Shooter Symposium in Mentor, Ohio on October 16th for $250.00.

The fixing of Shelter fees and Licenses for the Animal Shelter for 2027 were presented and accepted. License fees for a one-year stay are $22.00, 3 years at $66.00, and Permanent fees are $220.00, the same as they were the last 5 years.

Commissioner Combs participated in a phone call for the following approval of the 2026 Schedule of Ditch Maintenance assessments for the Mohler Ditch. $620.62 was sent to the Auditor for collection in 2027. It was approved and put in the journal.
