GREENVILLE – The Fort GreeneVille Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), invites the public to a special historical program exploring Fort Greene Ville’s connections to Fort Jefferson and Fort Recovery on Saturday, August 1, at 12:30 p.m. The presentation will take place at the Fort Greene Ville Replica, located at Water Street and Ash Street in Greenville. Heckaman will also be assisting Cait Clark with leading the guided walking tour at 10:30 a.m.
The Fort Greene Ville Replica will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as part of Northwest Ordinance Passport DAR Day, with a guided walking tour and educational programs throughout the day. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
Featured speaker David Heckaman will present a historical program exploring the vital role Fort Greene Ville played in the defense of the Northwest Territory and its connections to Fort Jefferson, Fort Recovery, and the military campaign that shaped Ohio’s frontier history.
A retired history teacher and principal with the Clermont Northeastern School District, Heckaman devoted 34 years to public education while developing a distinguished career as a historian, author, and living history interpreter. A resident of Milford, Ohio, he earned both his Bachelor of Arts in History and Master of Arts in Teaching from Miami University. In 1991, he was recognized as Clermont County Teacher of the Year by the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce.
From 1972 through 2022, Heckaman participated in living history programs throughout the eastern United States and Europe and appeared in 14 historical documentary films. He has co-authored numerous publications, including St. Clair’s Defeat, A Recently Discovered Old Map of Greenville, 1793, and Iron Case Shot and Musket Balls at Fort Jefferson, published in Ohio Archaeologist. He also co-authored a teacher’s guide and educational video on the Ratification of the United States Constitution for the U.S. Bicentennial Commission.
Recognized as one of Ohio’s foremost authorities on frontier history, Heckaman has devoted extensive research to Fort Jefferson, often referring to it as “the forgotten fort.” He has written numerous magazine and newspaper articles on the subject and a member of the Wayne’s Legion Research Group and serves on the board of the 1st American Regiment.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s service organization founded in 1890.
