DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Senior Picnic will be held Friday, May 29th, at 12:00 noon. This event will feature games, a boxed lunch, and prize giveaways at the Birchwood Senior Center. Anyone aged 55 and above is invited to attend. No RSVP is necessary although it helps us with our planning.
The four large gift baskets packed with goodies will be raffled at the Senior Picnic. If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, you can do so by contacting Wally or Mary or stopping in the DC Center between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. There will also be a little time for last minute ticket sales before the drawing on May 29th.
The baskets were generously donated by the Social Dance class, the Game Day group, friends of Tennessie Hamilton, and Heritage House. Raffle tickets cost $1.00 each or six for $5.00. The baskets are described below and can be seen at the center or on Facebook.

Description: We are pleased to invite you to our second annual Senior Picnic. This complimentary event serves as an expression of gratitude to all Darke County Seniors.
This year, the event is scheduled earlier in hopes of more comfortable weather conditions. Attendees will receive a complimentary boxed picnic lunch. There will be indoor activities including bingo and card games, while outdoor yard games will also be available. Representatives from local businesses will be present, offering swag and providing prizes to be given away. Memberships—both new and renewal—can be obtained at the door for $2 during this fiscal year.

Description: Whether you are new to quilting or a seasoned quilter, you are invited to join us at the Senior Center to learn piece quilting under the guidance of Carey Lee Creative Bee Quilting. Over the course of eight classes, you will create a different quilt block each Monday. By the end of the program, you will have eight unique blocks to sew together into a table topper, wall hanging or quilt.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a great price. Here’s what you should expect: The cost of the class is $15 per class plus the cost of your materials. Participants must bring their sewing machine and know how to operate it. The following must also be brought to every class: Cutting mat, Rotary cutter, Cutting rulers, Neutral thread, Pins, Frix ion pen, Little scissors (snips)
Prior to the first session, visit Creative Bee Quilting at 519 S. Broadway St., Greenville, to select your materials. Carey will be available to help you choose colors and themes to ensure your project is unique. She is also offering 10% off your class supplies. Theresa Kress (937/417-0709) will provide you with the coupon at the time of your prepaid registration.
Expect to spend between $100-$150 on your fabric. There will be an additional cost for your final piece to be professionally quilted. Classes will focus on cutting and sewing each block. You will add sashes and borders on your own time with our continued guidance. The class will also provide information on sandwiching, batting, and backing before referring you to recommended longarm quilters.

Description: Planning for long-term care can feel overwhelming. What does it look like? What does it include? Where do you even begin? This workshop will help you understand your options, what to expect, and how to create a thoughtful plan for the future. How to Prepare for Long-Term Care is a free, small-group, in-person workshop hosted by the Area Agency on Aging and presented by Scott Leonardi, a licensed health and life insurance agent since 1995.

Description: Joe Bush will be doing chair massage which reduces stress by lowering cortisol levels and promoting a sense of calm. It also alleviates physical tension in the neck, shoulders, and back, which helps relieve muscle pain and improve circulation. Shelly Acker will be doing mini foot reflexology. Foot reflexology is a natural practice based on the idea that specific points on the feet correspond to different organs and systems of the body. By applying pressure to these points, reflexology helps improve circulation, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support overall balance and well-being. Many people find it to be a soothing way to enhance both physical and emotional health.
