ARCANUM — On a cold, windy Monday, Arcanum ran into a St. Henry lineup that stayed hot from start to finish.
The Trojans held their own early, but a pair of big innings from the Redskins proved too much to overcome in a 14-4 loss at home.
Cooper Tegtmeyer got the start on the mound for Arcanum and was sharp through the first two innings, holding St. Henry scoreless. He finished allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while walking two.
Arcanum struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Kolten Quigney delivered a double to bring home the game’s first run. Quigney led the Trojans offensively and was the only Arcanum player to record multiple hits.
The lead was short-lived.
St. Henry responded in the top of the third, breaking through with three runs to take control. From there, the teams traded runs over the next two innings, with each side scoring once in the fourth and twice in the fifth.
The game shifted decisively in the sixth.
The Redskins erupted for five runs on five hits against reliever Baker, blowing the game open. They added three more runs in the seventh to put it out of reach.
Arcanum showed flashes offensively, finishing with four runs on seven hits, but struggled to put together consistent innings and committed four errors. St. Henry capitalized throughout, scoring 14 runs on 13 hits while committing just one error.
Quigney paced the Trojans with two hits, while St. Henry had three players record three hits each.
Bryce Kramer added a solid performance at the plate for Arcanum, scoring a run, driving in two, and drawing two walks.
Arcanum (3-1) will look to bounce back as it opens conference play on the road Tuesday against Ansonia.
