GREENVILLE — U.S. Army veteran Gaylen Blosser has been appointed to a second five-year term as a commissioner on the Darke County Veterans Service Commission, with his new term running from Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2030.
Blosser is a combat infantry veteran who served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, including a one-year tour in Vietnam with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry Division, during 1969-70.
“I am honored to have served with the Darke County Veterans Services Board of Commissioners throughout my first term,” Blosser said. “I am humbled and honored to continue to serve the veterans of Darke County for a second term.”
Blosser was sworn in on Wednesday afternoon at the Darke County Courthouse by the Honorable Travis L. Fliehman, Judge of the Darke County Common Pleas Court.
“Gaylen has been a great friend of the Veterans Service Commission,” Judge Fliehman said. “He’s been so active. That commission is reaping the rewards of his participation. He continues to serve the community in many respects, but he also wants to continue serving in this capacity.”
Judge Fliehman emphasized the value of experience and continuity on the board.
“There are times when fresh ideas and new people are important,” he said, “but there are also times when maintaining institutional knowledge is critical. Gaylen is one of those individuals whose experience and leadership are highly valued. We’re grateful he’s willing to serve again.”
The Darke County Veterans Service Commission is a five-member board appointed under Title 59 of the Ohio Revised Code. Each commissioner is appointed by the county’s Court of Common Pleas judge to serve a five-year term.
Commissioners are appointed to represent specific veterans organizations within the county, though all members represent all Darke County veterans and their families, regardless of affiliation. Current representation includes the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and at-large members.
The commission oversees the operation of the Darke County Veterans Service Office, ensuring that eligible veterans and their families receive all federal, state, and local benefits to which they are entitled.
