Arcanum Public Library helping patrons “Color Our World”

ARCANUM – The Summer Reading Program is going to kick off at the Arcanum Public Library on Monday, June 2nd. The theme this year is “Color Our World.”

Staff have decorated the library inspired by the various arts that enrich our lives. We are excited for patrons to begin signing up on June 2nd, and patrons enrolled early, before Saturday, June 14th, can enter their name for a four-pack of Kings Island tickets!

The summer reading program will continue until August 2nd. Children participating can use their reading logs to mark off their weekly time spent reading and then submit their reading logs for the library’s “Creative Cash” to earn prizes in the case worth various amounts of hours of reading. This is a great way for children to continue reading throughout the summer months and stay plugged in to learning.

Another way for patrons to earn some extra “Creative Cash” is by attending some of our wonderful programs that enhance the theme of the arts during the Summer Reading Program. During the month of June, we are looking forward to offering the following programs for those within the community to attend:

  • Wednesday, June 4th at 10:00am, Jim McCutcheon: The Guitar Man will be entertaining our families in the gift of music! Jim shares a variety of music and guitars while engaging the audience. We are very excited to host him this year!
  • Monday, June 9th at 10:00am, there will be a Senior Farmers Market Informational Meeting for citizens ages 60+ who may qualify for food vouchers to be used at participating farmers markets.
  • Tuesday, June 10th at 10:00am, Blake Bailey Productions will be entertaining families with a variety show. Blake Bailey’s shows often include comedy, balloon animals, magic, and juggling.
  • Thursday, June 19th at 6:30pm, author Dave Fierst from Dayton, OH will be sharing a program about his book, “Hidden Disgrace.”
  • Monday, June 23rd at 10:00am, the Darke County Parks Department will be sharing a program about Animal Camouflage with our families attending. We’re looking forward to learning how animals also use color in our world!
  • We’re looking forward to sharing a 5-week dance series from Final Bow Center for Children’s Performing Arts as part of our Summer Reading Program. The classes on Tuesdays during the month of June will be on June 17th and 24th both at 10:00am. Please be sure to sign up at the front desk for this event.
  • June Craft times include Fairy Gardens on Friday, June 6th at 10:00am, Button Pin Art on Friday, June 13th at 10:00am, Positive Clothespin Clip Craft on Thursday, June 19th at 1:00pm, and Shabby Chic Fabric Flowers on Thursday, June 26th at 1:00pm. Please check the front desk for sign-ups.
  • Summer Reading Program Storytimes will be on Thursdays at 10:00am beginning on June 12th! We look forward to sharing the arts with our younger patrons through books, crafts, songs, and movement!

The Arcanum Public Library is very thankful for the many local businesses that have donated to help enrich our Summer Reading Program this year, either financially in support of providing our quality programs or through prizes for the prize case. Thank you very much!!

We are so excited to share the gift of the arts this summer with our community and inspire others to help “Color Our World.” We look forward to seeing you stop in during the month of June!
