DARKE COUNTY – On the last morning of the fair six lucky individuals were picked to participate in Adult Dog Showmanship at The Great Darke County Fair.
Participants included Director, James Zumbrink, Director, Cristoph Keller, Director and President, Greg Pearson, Director and Treasurer, Marla Werner, Dog Secretary, GraceLynn Harter and Darke County 4-H Youth-Development Educator, Mercedes McFarland.
The judge was Kathleen Ditmer, advisor of the Tail Waggers 4-H Club and Assistant Dog Secretary.
Each participant picked a dog’s name out of a bowl at random. They were then assigned those dogs and instructed by the judge to enter the ring.
Participants were told to come into the ring and line up one behind the other. They were then asked to parade around the ring.
Two of the six participants were given two tiebreaker questions.
Before giving placings, the judge had the participants parade once more receiving recognition from the audience.
First place went to Mercedes McFarland, second place was Christoph Keller, third place was Greg Pearson and fourth place was James Zumbrink.
The top four placings all received rosettes, and everyone was encouraged to participate again next year.
“They all did very well,” said Ditmer. “It was an interesting mix, but it was fun, and it made everyone smile.”
