PIQUA -The Piqua Fire Department celebrates five of its firefighter/emergency medical technicians completing the paramedic program at Edison State Community College. The graduates were recognized during a ceremony at the college’s Piqua campus on Tuesday.
Congratulations to Levi Barthauer, Jacob Eidemiller, Alex Fries, Jason Lamb and Sarah Ray, pictured from left to right along with Fire Chief Lee Adams. The paramedic candidates must also pass the National Registry Paramedic Certification Examination before earning the credential.
“We are proud to acknowledge the efforts of our employees who are working to earn their paramedic certification,” Chief Adams said. “Our goal is to have all firefighters earn their paramedic certification to provide the best fire and rescue care possible to our community.”
Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive emergency medical service response and perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found in an ambulance or fire/rescue vehicle. Paramedics are a vital link from the scene to the health care system. Education programs provide students with the training and skills required of paramedics, practicing and assessing the skills necessary in the field.
